Palenque Chiapas
Located in the northwestern state of Chiapas, about 290 Km. of the City of Tuxtla Gutierrez and 220 Km. ARCHEOLOGY
Comprised of more than 200 architectural structures, different in size and complexity, tailored to the topography of the land, Palenque is certainly one of the major cities that the Maya inherited to humanity. Temple of the Inscriptions. It is the third building located at the east side of the entrance, is named after the large panels with hieroglyphic inscriptions, located in the corridor of entry to his temple, which tell the story of King Pakal, their ancestors and their kinship with the ancient gods Maya. In 1952, archaeologist Alberto Ruz released a staircase leading to a chamber where they were found the remains of Pakal and his funerary regalia.
The Crypt. Located under the Temple of the Inscriptions. To reach it we must descend a staircase divided into two tranches: the entrance to the compound is 1.50 m below ground level. The Templo de la Cruz. Located on the north side of the Plaza del Sol, here you can see three tombs, a monolith known as "The Dead", which represents a character standing on a hieroglyph, two tombstones with inscriptions and 18 cylinders of mud representing deities . The Templo de la Cruz Folio. Built on the "Cerro de Miramar" north of the Plaza del Sol, has a crest that surrounds the central wall and a gallery inside. The wall has doors with access to three quarters. In his shrine are preserved with a frieze fragments of stucco and three tablets of stone that form the Board of the Cross Folias (cross-leaf corn).
The Temple of the Sun. It is located in the far west of the Plaza del Sol.
